J.D. Hughes has written something truly special here. The atmosphere pulls you in from the very first pages and refuses to let go. The setting feels real. The kind that lingers in your mind after you've closed the book. The pacing never felt rushed or dragged on, and the writing itself had a quiet confidence that made even the small moments feel significant.

The characters are the kind you root for fiercely and worry about constantly. Hughes gives them depth, letting them breathe on the page rather than simply serving the plot. And the plot itself? Full of surprises. Just when I thought I had a handle on where things were going, the story shifted in ways I never saw coming.

But it was the ending that truly got me. It wrecked me emotionally in the most wholesome, beautiful way. The kind of ending that makes you sit quietly for a few minutes before you can even think about picking up another book.

The Boy Across the Water is the kind of story that reminds you why you love reading. Absolutely do not sleep on this one.

Ruin by Jolie Vines My rating: 4 of 5 stars Ruin by Jolie Vines is an emotional and intense romance with a lot of promise, but it fell a bit short for me in execution. While the overall premise is gripping and the connection between the main characters is undeniable, the pacing felt uneven at times. On the positive side, the author does a great job creating high-stakes tension and building a vivid world. The chemistry between the leads is strong, and there are plenty of passionate moments that will satisfy romance fans.
